The North East Pennsylvania (NEPA) Miners are a minor league football team bringing a first of its kind football league to North Eastern Pennsylvania that will set the Miners apart from their competitors. While the Miners represent all of North East Pennsylvania, their basis of operations is the Poconos, encompassing the areas of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The Miners play in the Regional Atlantic Football League (RAFL) with home games at the area’s finest facilities.
The Miners’ goal is to serve the people of North East Pennsylvania with year-round community service while providing superior customer service and quality family entertainment on Saturday nights during the football season. Led by their President and Head Coach Daniel LaMagna and supported by Charlie Wysocki — a Wilkes-Barre native and legendary football player — the Miners aim to exemplify the utmost in sportsmanship while entertaining their fans. The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Team proudly represents Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazelton, the Poconos and all of North Eastern Pennsylvania. In our efforts to gain new members and provide more community service to our great region, we have launched the NEPA Miners Booster Club. The club consists of players, coaches, cheerleaders, management, fans, friends and supporters. The NEPA Miners Booster club holds monthly meetings at the Scranton Hilton Hotel and Conference Center and is recruiting new members to support the Miners and help give back to the community. The NEPA Miners relocate to the South Side Complex in Scranton this week with practice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30pm. The Miners have completed three weeks of camp getting rookies and veterans in shape and signing new players. The coaching staff will be cranking it up come May as all verterans are expected to report and more players will be signed. The team hopes to have everyone in equipment by the middle of May. Rain or Shine, the NEPA Miners football team is getting there work in. We know it will be our efforts now that will make the difference in a title run come October! In case of inclimate weather practice can be moved indoors to the Scranton Hilton Hotel and Conference Center. The Hilton Scranton is our Game Day Sponsor and meeting place for films during the season and for our Booster Club.  We want to be certain to thank the Hilton for there accomodations and outstanding service! Equally important to our conditioning and fundamentals is our meetings, our understanding of the offensive and defensive playbooks as we are putting in new material each week of camp. The NEPA Miners made a league switch this off season in their quest to provide Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and all of Northeastern Pennsylvania with the best brand of minor league football. The NEPA Miners have a challenging but rewarding road ahead in the Regional American Football League (RAFL). The RAFL consists of 39 teams and 9 Divisions. The Miners season will start out of conference when our hometown team travels to Pottsville to play the Schuylkill County Coal Crackers in the 2nd Annual Anthracite Classic. NEPA won the Miners Cup a year ago in a 44-14 first win in the history of the Miners franchise. The Miners will return home on July 12th for their home opener at Scranton Memorial Stadium versus the Hudson Valley Cowboys. The Cowboys (who do look like the Dallas Cowboys) are part of the RAFL North East Division which will consist of the Cowboys, the New England Knights, the expansion Connecticut Bearcats and our hometown NEPA Miners who were voted Best New Team on the East Coast by Minor League Football News last season. The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Team will have their 1st Annual Golf Tournament at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course Tuesday June 3rd with a shotgun start at noon. It is $60 to golf and enjoy a buffet afterwards. All proceeds from the event will go to the NEPA Miners Booster Club which is a non-profit organization being started to further advance operations of your hometown football team on the football field and in the community. If you are not a golfer, supporters and fans are welcome to come enjoy a buffet and meet the Miners! NEPA Miners coaches, players and entertainment team members will be on hand to sign autographs, entertain our fans and hit the greens! The NEPA Miners 2nd Annual Charlie Wysocki Camp will be held May 31st at the Riverfront Sports Complex in Scranton. Coach Charlie Wysocki is entering his fourth year as part of Coach LaMagna’s coaching staff. Charlie was an All-State football player and wrestler at Wilkes-Barre Myers before attending the University of Maryland and becoming there second all-time leading rusher. Charlie had a serious ankle injury his senior year which dropped his stock on draft day. Charlie would receive several free agent offers before accepting a free agent invite with the Dallas Cowboys. During his time in camp with the Cowboys Charlie spoke with legendary Head Coach Tom Landry about not feeling well. This would be the end of his football career as Charlie was stricken with bipolar disorder. Charlie’s life has been full of ups and downs as he continues to battle this illness. The NEPA Miners are a major supporter of Charlie and on May 31st will raise money for the Charlie Wysocki Foundation started to raise awareness of and help those with bipolar disorder. The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Team are recruiting new talent from the Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding areas. A picture similar to the one attached with this article can be found inside the Steamtown Mall in Scranton as four signs are distributed throughout the Mall. The Miners organization also is advertising in the Electric City Newspaper and team president Dan LaMagna recently had speaking engagements recruiting for the 2008 NEPA Miners. The future looks bright for a team coming off an 8-4 season with many new recruits in camp but the competition has also picked up with the new move to the Regional American Football League (RAFL). The Miners coaching staff will be recruiting heavy for the next month but are able to sign players up until the 6th week of the regular season. Behind every good man is a great woman and the Miners Girls Entertainment team is recruiting as well. With many of the girls helping last years coach and intern Angela Scrobek, many girls are still needed for 2008.
